My New Beast

Description

I did it. I bought a "new" machine. Not just any pc, no. On May 23rd of 2016 I acquired a box that would make Spanky, my largest computer so far, blush. If my dear mother was alive, today would be her 83rd birthday. Thus, it will be easy to remember when I got this monster of a workhorse class computer.

Meet the Dell Precision T3600 Workstation. The image above is straight off the cam with no watermarking or other corrective measures, so Swiper no swiping!

The T3600 is considered to be an entry level machine. This is not just any T3600, however. It has been upgraded. In the original setup, it had a six core processor. Other items were also of a lame nature compared to the current manifest. Below is a short listing of what it is as delivered to Walnut Hill Productions.

Manufacturer: Dell
Model: Precision T3600
Role: Content Creation Workstation
Task: Video Editor
CPU: Intel Xeon 2670 clocked at 2.6GHz on 8 cores with 16 threads (!)
RAM: Samsung Registered ECC DDR3 clocked at 1333MHz on four 4GB sticks (16GB)
Boot: Micron 250GB SATA III SSD running Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit
Data: Western Digital Blue 1TB SATA III HDD as a single partition
Optical Disc Burner: Dell Slimline 24X SATA III DVDRW
Motherboard: Dell socket 2011 with Intel C600 PCH
PSU: Dell 635 watt RMS 80+ Gold server grade
Case: black Dell Precision mid tower with carrying handles
Dell mouse and keyboard
System weight: about thirty pounds

I will not quote the cost of ownership because it is a fraction of the original retail tag. Enabling the computer to do its job is going to cost a small fortune, not to mention, take a considerable amount of time in testing and integration with other machines in the production loop. Stay tuned as the story unfolds...

Upgrading it is fine. What exactly were you planning on doing with Mister T?
