Windows 7 on Delilah - dA and Waterfox

Description

Delilah logs into the Slow Dog's place on dA with a new browser!

Well dA did it again. They tried to make my machines obsolete with their newest iteration of site design madness. If the site is viewed in Internet Explorer 11, things stop working in Watch 2.0 and logging out becomes a real hassle. Since the opt out is a box written in some kind of java IE cannot comprehend, it simply is not there. And so, the search for workarounds were pursued.

The first problem, logging out, was solved by dropping down the profile menu and clicking on Settings>Sessions>Log out of this session only, since the log out entry on the menu does nothing when clicked in Watch 2.0.

The second issue, not being able to opt out of Watch 2.0, was solved by installing Waterfox with AdBlock Plus. This Firefox clone is 64bit and lightning fast, not to mention about 97% HTML5 compliant, including the newer CSS and Java scripting. It blocks all the ads and shows all the content. Thus, I was able to see that annoyingly hard to find tiny little box down in the lower left corner, actually a minuscule pop up window, with an almost grayed out check box of damnably small dimensions for my blind eyes to locate, wherein I unchecked the damn thing.

Phew. I got dA back! (At least until they force this on us, because they are not going to cease rolling this out, no matter how many petitions we file. It's their site. They have made that abundantly clear both in public and in private. We are just a product that does not even rate minion status it would seem. Sad is this, because continuing both my subscription and membership here has been placed in some small doubt. It is not out of anger that I say this. It is not out of fear that changes are coming. It is more about the left hand not knowing or caring about what the right hand is doing.

By the way, Waterfox is a fine browser. If you like Firefox, you will LOVE Waterfox. It is much cleaner and faster. It is also compatible with all things Mozilla, so your fave plugs will do nicely on this. Search on Waterfox and go get it. I was not paid or cudgeled into saying that. It is about real experience. This browser rocks on a 64bit Intel machine running Windows 7 Pro SP1.
