Description
On October 13th of 2014 Rangers Ellen and Ricardo of the Alcoa Ridge Runners ventured forth to Cades Cove near Townsend, Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see early fall colors and hike the Crooked Arm Trail to the junction with Scott Mountain Trail.
As the trail would its way up the mountain, the elevation gain became more pronounced. The trail became a ledge, where openings in the forest foliage would reveal beautiful views of the ranges beyond and valleys below. The forest grew deeper, with wetter conditions prevailing.
A creek parallels the trail for a time. Along the way, a number of small cascades can be heard tumbling over rocks. On a previous hike, one of these tiny waterfalls was imaged. It is interesting to note the same place is now hidden under dead wood.
