Description

The Tennessee Theatre auditorium in all its original 1928 splendor, showing off the 3/17 Mighty WurliTzer Theatre Pipe Organ at center stage. This is a very special movie palace, being only one of two remaining theatres built by Jim Eberson for the Publix chain. The building was completely restored in 2001 at a cost of over twenty-two million dollars. The organ was rebuilt by Ken Chrome in Reno, Nevada at a cost of over fifty thousand dollars. During the rebuild, the instrument was enlarged from fourteen to seventeen ranks, giving it a world class voice which attracts famous organists from all over the world. The theatre seats 1,625 happy patrons in opulant comfort with red velvet seats and excellent acoustics. The auditorium and the organ are a marriage made in heaven because the room was built around the pipes. There is not a bad seat in the house. This picture was snapped from the balcony.
