Building Spanky 62

Description

Using the Windows 7 Snipping Tool, Spanky's "My Computer" window was captured from the desktop and saved as a JPG file for submission to dA. This image represents the base system statistics before any hardware upgrades, depicting a typical workstation of this class sans any additional graphics or storage solutions. The hardware is valued at around 1800 dollars at retail. A license DVD for Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1 OEM is around 140 dollars. For less than two thousand bucks, it is possible to ship the parts and build this very fine computer from the list of parts below.

The case is the Raijintek Aeneas black cube tower with solid side panel

The motherboard is the Gigabyte B85M-D3H micro ATX socket 1150 Haswell

The processor is the Intel Xeon E3 1246v3 at 3.5GHz, 4 cores, 8 threads

The power supply is the Seasonic Platinum Plus 860 hybrid modular

The CPU Cooler is the Noctua NH-U12S with two Noctua NF-F12 fans in push/pull

The DDR3 memory is 32GB of Kingston Value RAM, 8GB x 4 at 1600MHz dual channel

The Windows 7 Pro boot drive is the Intel 730 series SATA III 2.5inch 240GB SSD

The boot drive container is the IcyDock Tough Armor 2 dual 2.5inch SSD unit for 3.5inch bay

The two storage drives are the Western Digital SATA III Blue 1TB 3.5inch HDDs

The blue ray burner is an LG M-Disc SATA III 5.25inch full height unit.

Note that the storage was downgraded from two WD Enterprise 4TB units due to budget constraints since a pair of these cost almost 600 dollars. A second SSD identical to the first one shall be added when Windows 10 goes on the system as a second bootable OS later this year, sometime before fall arrives. It is also hoped that a dedicated graphics solution will be installed, perhaps the 4GB AMD Firepro W5100 workstation solution.

When I do screen captures I either to the "print screen" paste it in paint and crop it.
A cool tool is ScreenHunter: www.wisdom-soft.com/products/s…
Which crop and save it as JPG instantly, if you configured it to do that.

2000 dollars is not a bad price consider all the powerful hardware.
A bit more here in Norway but hey, that how it is with everything here. :P
