Description

On November 21st of 2015, Ranger Travis acquired an e-Machine model T5226 from the local tech shop bin. This computer was totally crudded over and the software package was a wreck, even though it actually booted into Vista Home Premium 32bit upon arrival at CoyoteNET DSS.

After opening it up outdoors, compressed air was used to blow away the loose dirt. Travis then took it completely apart and cleaned every piece with 91% isopropyl alcohol and lint free paper towels along with soft and stiff bristle brushes. He then reassembled it for this photo. The before and after shots.

The plan is to upgrade this trash picked machine. It will be getting more RAM (4GB), a new CPU (Intel Core2Quad Q9600), bigger hard drive for storage (WD Blue 1TB), a video engine (ATI Radeon 5660 PCIe16X Gen2), and a 600watt PSU of unknown vintage.

After the cleaning, the little box was placed on the bench for an OS upgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1. After the driver and OS upgrades, Waterfox and a series of pluggins were installed. Doom 3 was added for testing the performance. It definitely needs a GPU since onboard graphics are a disaster in games.

Other than dismal gaming performance, the machine runs quite well, considering the meager power of the elder hardware, a really low ball socket 775 system. Bonuses are the Intel motherboard and some really solid starter parts. After the upgrades, this computer should be a fine little workstation able to edit the drone and camera footage Travis is known for.

I see a PATA-cable here. Still has a floppy drive?
