A Xeon for the Eskimo

On January 7th of 2016, an order was placed with Amazon for this, a genuine Intel Xeon X3360 quad core CPU clocked at 2.83GHz. This fine processor, identical to the one in Delilah, is going to replace the current chip in Nanook (a Dell Inspiron 530 which originally ran a Pentium D at 1.93GHz before Ricardo upgraded it to a Core2Duo at 2.33GHz - Duck's OEM chip.)

This beautiful Xeon will breathe hard working workstation life into this compact vintage 2009 computer. To round out the package, an order will be placed in February for an 8GB kit (4 x 2GB sticks) of Kingston low profile DDR2 clocked at 800MHz. Later, the machine is due to receive a Kingston V300 240GB SSD to replace the WD Black 250GB HDD currently hosting Windows 7 Pro 64bit.

The onboard graphics have already been swapped out to an XFX Radeon HD 5450 1GB PCIe16X solution which provides ultra wide resolutions on DVI, VGA and HDMI.

Amazon missed the track on this, cancelling the sale due to out of stock status. And so we wait on the next one to become available... Meanwhile, the Eskimo mosies along on the permafrost, looking for a good place to ice fish while he waits...

Another Xeon X3360 has been located. If it is still there in February, plans are to get it. Although not the 55 dollar price of the first one, it is still reasonable at 85 dollars considering that the price of a new boxed item is $512. (Ouch...) Yes, you can still get these new if your wallet if fat enough...
